Natural Remedy for Gout-4 Helpful Natural Remedy for Gout Tips

I’m always looking for new natural remedy for gout. I used to suffer from gout on a regular basis, but I did not like the idea of taking prescription medications. It took quite a few painful attacks for me to finally listen to my doctor and submit to taking gout medications. I’ve taken allopurinol, indomethacin, and colchicine.

I prefer finding natural solutions to diseases over taking prescription medications, so a couple years ago I did some studying and decided to slowly take myself off the medications. Since I’ve decided to use a natural remedy for gout approach, my acute gout attacks have dropped from 2-3 a month to literally once a year. My last gout attack was in July 2006, and I’ve been able to eat foods that formerly caused me to have severe gout pain. Here are just 4 of the ways I’ve beaten the gout monster.

1. Cherries

For gout sufferers this has to be the tried and true natural remedy for gout food of choice, and the one I use the most. Fortunately for me, I live in a part of the country where cherry farmers are a major industry, so cherries are easily available even in the off-season. If you don’t have this luxury, you can buy a good cherry juice concentrate at most health food stores. Cherries have an enzyme that helps neutralize uric acid. They also have a property known as anthocyanins which reduce inflammation.

Even die-hard cherry lovers get tired of eating bowls of cherries or drinking cherry juice and need variety from time to time. Here are some other great ways to help you get rid of gout.

2. Strawberries

Strawberry season is almost here and my garden is full of them just waiting to ripen. Strawberries offer a great tasty natural remedy for gout. So if you’re tired of eating cherries, try a handful of strawberries. It’ll add variety to your diet while at the same time helping you say goodbye to gout. Strawberries are helpful because they neutralize uric acid.

3. Pineapples

Are you currently suffering from an acute gout attack? Eat some pineapple or drink a glass of pineapple juice. Pineapple has an anti-inflammatory property called bromelain. Bromelain eases inflammation by breaking down proteins. This breakdown helps ease joint pain and swelling.

4. Grapes

Here’s one that most people don’t think about. Grapes have many health benefits one of which is assisting your body in lowering your uric acid levels by helping to eliminate uric acid from your system. Grapes are also high in antioxidants and are one of my favorite fruits.

In this age of growing obesity,health advocates are constantly telling us to eat more fruits. And let’s face it, most of us who suffer from gout are not the healthiest people and are predominantly overweight.

So why not try a mixture of cherries,strawberries, grapes, and pineapples the next time you have a snack. Your overall health will improve and you’ll lower those uric acid levels to a point where you can start weaning yourself off those medications.
