Big Alaska Snowboard & Freeski Club-November 2007
Big Alaska Snowboard & Freeski Club Training Program is for snowboarders and freeskiers 18 years old or younger past the beginner level. We’ll offer 2 options this year. You can train 1X a week (either Wednesday at Hilltop OR Saturday, mostly at Alyeska) for $400 or 2X a week for $600 (Wednesday and Saturday). New this year, all training program athletes will get a beautiful X-Games style jersey to wear during all trainings and keep forever.
Registration forms, fee schedule and 2007-08 Informational Handbook will be available soon on our website. Please read the handbook—there are some changes in the training program and the Big Alaska Snow Series this year! Download and submit your registration forms with payment as soon as possible. Our program grew so much last year that we’re going to limit the program to 50 riders this season. Register early, don’t get left out.
The training program will begin Wednesday, December 5 at Hilltop and on Saturday, December 8 at Alyeska.
Early Season Get-Together – Sunday, December 2
Meet the coaches, the Series Director and the Board of Directors.
There’ll be a brief presentation about the training program, the Big Alaska Snow Series, the fundraising drive, USASA Nationals and volunteer opportunities with plenty of time for questions afterward.
Bring your downloaded training program registration packets and check or cash payments. (We can’t take credit cards, sorry!) We’ll have a few copies printed out for those without printers, but you’ll save time if you download them from the Big Alaska website before the get-together.
Russian Jack Park Chalet—the kids can play outside in the snow!
Sunday, December 2, 6:30 – 8:30 pm
Bring a dessert or non-alcoholic beverage to share.
Bring outgrown or unused snowboards, boots or bindings to donate to a new Whittier Community School outreach program—there’ll be a box to drop off your items.
Coaches
Jeremy Puckett returns as Head Coach this year with a large group of great coaches. Look for your favorites from last year and get to know some excellent new (to us) coaches. All you riders who went to the Big Easy summer camp? Remember how great the coaches were? Big Alaska offers coaching, including some of the coaches from Big Easy camp, all winter long at multiple mountains, for about the same price.
Big Alaska Snow Series is the USASA sanctioned race/event series run locally by volunteers. Snowboarders of all ages and ability levels can enter events in 5 disciplines. Skiers can enter events in 3 disciplines. Adaptive snowboarders and skiers are more than welcome. There's even an Open class. Local events are intended to be fun, fair and safe. Check out the USASA website www.usasa.org for more information. Competitions will mostly be on Sundays and school holiday Mondays at various locations. USASA strongly recommends that we have at least 3 events per discipline to help you to qualify for Nationals through the National Ranking System (NRS). Remember that being part of the Big Alaska Training Program does not get you an automatic spot at Nationals—you have to qualify through your results in the Series, just like anybody else.
We want the Big Alaska Snow Series events to be fun for everyone and not just about qualifying for Nationals. Challenge yourself and challenge your friends—try new tricks and go faster than you think you can go. Cheer for everybody! Pass the word. This year we have scheduled USASA events at Hilltop and Alyeska. The schedule is posted on the USASA website: Go to Regions, find Northwest Region and click on Big Alaska Snow Series.
