Big Alaska NEWS Feb 26, 2008

Boardercross/Skiercross Saturday and Sunday March 1 and 2

Registration 9:30-11:00 at the day lodge (or at the Sitzmark if necessary).  Alyeska requires that we get a waiver/release form signed by a parent for each event.  You can download and print it from our website and bring it with you to registration or bring a parent to fill it out at registration.  I’ve had to turn away 2 or 3 kids each event because they didn’t have the release form, and I really hate having to do that.

HELP!  Since we had to reschedule this event, I need a new crew.  Please send me an email or call (244-6441) if you’d like to volunteer, tell me what job and what day you’d like to work, thanks!  Several people spoke to me this weekend and offered to help but I didn’t write your names down, my bad.  Volunteers should check in with me 9:30-9:45 to get your lift ticket vouchers.  People helping with course setting should plan on getting up on the early lifts.  Everybody who helped Saturday, Feb 16 did a fantastic job in marginal conditions and I’d love to have you all back if you’ve got the time.

Inside registration help 9:15-11:00 (just need 1 or 2)

Outside help:  Need about 8 people—takes longer with less people volunteering but with more people we can double up on the gate judging so you don’t have to stand there so long (start area helpers, finish judge, gate judges, course setters, pulling gates at the end of competition).

USASA Nationals at Copper Mountain

We’ve completed 3 of 5 disciplines:  GS, Slopestyle and Halfpipe.  The Series Winners for GS and SS are posted on www.bigalaskasnow.net .  Quarterpipe results is also the Series Winner list.

Because Halfpipe was scheduled and cancelled on 2 different dates by Alyeska, we had to get creative.  We held a single Quarterpipe competition to qualify Series Winners.  Otherwise we would have had no Big Alaska competitors going to Nationals in Halfpipe at all.  Let me remind you that because we only held 1 comp, the USASA will show no National Rankings in Halfpipe for Big Alaska riders and skiers.  The winners of the comp qualify for Nationals.  Second place finishers are the alternates.  That’s it for this year.

Slalom # 3 and # 4 were scheduled for March 2 but we’ve postponed this event and replaced it with Boardercross.  We’re hoping to reschedule Slalom for March 8 or 9, but that is unconfirmed.  If we can’t have that event, then the results from Slalom # 1 and # 2 will determine the Slalom Series Winners.

Pat Jackson, SnowOhio Series Director, has reserved a 6 bedroom house at Copper (check out the house at www.vrbo.com/11027)  that she can’t use, she’s looking to either rent the whole thing ($6605) or rent rooms ($1200 a room for Friday, March 28 to Sunday, April 6) if any of you are looking for a rental place.  Do not contact me, contact Pat Jackson 330-352-8113 or PJackson@jacksoncomfort.com  There will probably be rooms rented to people from other Series and it could be a really fun way to make new friends.
